The number of unemployed registered in the offices of the public employment services (former Inem) fell in33.956unemployed in March (-1%),its lowest decline in this month since 2014, when it decreased by 16,620 people.

After the decline in March, the total number of unemployed is located in3,255,084 unemployed, as reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security.

Within the historical series of March, which began in 1996, unemployment has fallen by 20 times and has risen by four, specifically in the 2009-2012 period, coinciding with the worst years of the crisis.

The cut registered in March of this year exceeds the decreases experienced in 2015 (-60,214 unemployed), 2016 (-58,216 unemployed) 2017 (-48,559 unemployed) and 2018 (-47,697 unemployed).

The drop in unemployment in March was noticeable especially in services, which subtracted 32,401 unemployed (-1.4%), followed by construction, with 4,555 fewer unemployed (-1.7%), and the industry, which registered 4,000 unemployed less (-1.4%). In contrast, unemployment rose in the group without previous employment (+5,278 unemployed, + 1.9%) and in agriculture (+1 722 unemployed more, + 1.1%).

In the last year, unemployment has been reduced by 167,467 people, at an inter-annual rate of 4.89%.

In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment fell by 12,692 in March compared to the previous month, according to Labor.

Regarding hiring, in the third month of the year, 1,709,848 contracts were made, 3.8% more than in March 2018, of which 179,821 were permanent contracts, 10.5% of the total, with a decrease 7% compared to the same month last year.
