The Ecuadorian Foreign Minister, José Valencia, who also participated in the event, said the meeting was "positive and fruitful," the statement said.

"The United Nations supports one hundred percent the defense of the democratic order, which is the only thing that guarantees full enforcement of the defense of rights," he said.

Demonstrations took place in Ecuador on October 3 and 13, several of them violent, against a decree that eliminated the fuel subsidy under an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Moreno had to reverse his decision and repealed the controversial decree, which ended the demonstrations.

According to the document, the bilateral meeting also presented the actions that Ecuador is implementing for the care of the environment, and mentioned among them, the reduction of the deforestation rate to 48.6% in the last two decades and the existence of 59 protected areas, which correspond to 14% of the national territory.

Prior to the appointment with Guterres, the head of state, was received by a large group of Ecuadorian migrants, who showed their support and thanks for the free legal advice on mortgage matters.
