The thaw due to the climate crisis allows doubling the number of trips through the Arctic in the months that should be frozen

The climate crisis is causing an accelerated thaw of the Arctic with palpable planetary consequences even many kilometers south of the polar circle: scientists have certified its relationship with the rise in sea level and the multiplication of extreme weather phenomena in America, Asia and, also in Spain. However, removing the icy layer is profitable for some industries. Winter maritime traffic, when the frozen ocean should make it nearly impossible to navigate, has doubled in five years. Voyages along the Northern Route in December, January and February have gone from 214 in 2016 to 468 in 2020, according to the compiled by Nord University in Norway.
