“The students know more about Nazism than about Francoism”

Entire generations in Spain still do not know well what Franco’s repression consisted of and what the fight against the dictatorship was like after the Civil War. Why? That is the question that Enrique Javier Díez, a professor at the Faculty of Education at the University of León, asked himself and, in order to find answers, he decided to promote with other university professors a detailed study of the textbooks that address that historical period. In addition, he and his colleagues conducted a survey, interviewing 610 secondary and high school history teachers from across the country about their perception of the content in the manuals.
