September leaves 'a priori' some
good job market data Canary Islands, a traditionally positive month due to the start of the school year that reactivates numerous activities linked to education.

Unemployment fell on the islands by 1,628 people (0.86%), while at the national level it rose 0.6%, and also the
affiliationn, that is, the number of workers, increased by 1.49%, by 12,532 people.

The rebound leads the number of contributors on the islands to reach
record numbers, with a total of 852,802 people while unemployment falls to 188,661. Today there are 19,176 fewer unemployed on the islands than before covid, in February 2020, thanks to public employment and tourism.

Uneven evolution of unemployment

The good evolution of unemployment in September in the Canary Islands was, however, uneven. If we analyze the data in detail, it is verified that unemployment fell among women last month (1.9%, in 1,975 people) but
rose among men (0.44%, in 347 people).

It also rebounded among job seekers
foreign (3% among non-EU citizens and 2% among those belonging to the European Union); the beneficiaries were nationals, with a fall of 1.21%, in 2,096 people. By age,
Young those under 25 years of age were particularly affected with an increase in unemployment of 9.3%, in 875 people.

Unemployment fell in September in all sectors except in
hostelry, where it increased almost 3%, in 740 people. Agriculture, industry, construction and commerce together contributed 21% of the drop in unemployment, with a fall of 356 people. The remaining 78% was supported by the 'rest of services', among which are the
public administration and activities related to education. In this group, unemployment fell by 2,624 people.

By islands, it was
The Palm which led the decline in unemployment, with a drop of 3%. He then stood
Gran Canariawith a decrease of 1.39%, in 1,149 people while in
Tenerife the decrease was 0.54%, in 451. Fuerteventura and El Hierro suffered a rise in unemployment, in 159 and 9 people, respectively.

Partial contracts rise and full-time contracts go down

Canarias was in September one of the autonomous communities with the highest number of contracts. In total, 64,249 were closed, which represents an increase of 2.25% compared to the previous month, that is, 1,411 more. The
undefined, thanks to the labor reform, have grown strongly and represented 51% of the total last month, with 32,890. They are almost 5,000 more than the indefinite ones that were closed in the same month of 2021.

The bad data that hiring last month leaves us is that full-time agreements fell by 4%, which is almost 1,600 less than the previous month while those that were closed

Of the 64,249 contracts that were closed in September in the Canary Islands, just over half (54%) were full-time. The rest are part-time or other types of contracts with even fewer hours of work.

By economic sectors,
contracts fell in the hospitality industry compared to the previous month with 1,445 less (-6.35%) and a total of 21,300. They also fell in commerce, with a decrease of 5.7%, in 522 and in agriculture, with a decrease of 13%, in 173. The greatest increase in contracts occurs in education with a rebound of 183% and 3,238 agreements. La Palma is the island where contracts grow the most.

Affiliates in education

The number of affiliates grew in September in the Canary Islands by 12,532 people and of these, 60% found work thanks to the start of the school year. 6,131 new workers registered in the education branch and 1,197 more did so in transport, fundamentally linked to schools. In the hospitality industry, affiliates grew by 835 people and fell in commerce (-104) and in construction (-19).
