The staff of Alcoa Avilés marches on foot towards Oviedo

Dozens of Alcoa Avilés workers and subcontractors have started, along with some family members, a march of more than thirty kilometers to the Government Delegation of Asturias, in Oviedo, to demand a solution that prevents the closure of the factory.

The employees, many of them dressed in yellow shirts, have started the march past eight in the morning with low temperatures and the threat of rain.

The march left the aluminum factory and will run along the old road from Aviles to Oviedo, with the escort of local police and vehicles of the organization.

Predictably arrive at 16:00 hours to Oviedo, where workers will be received by the delegate of the Government in Asturias, Delia Losa, to which several union representatives will transfer their demands.

Hundreds of people gathered yesterday in front of the Avilés Consistory as part of the actions that the aluminera staff is carrying out as a result of the US multinational announcing the closure of its Aviles and A Coruña factories.

This march on foot occurs at a crucial point in the conflict because the unions have put a deadline until next Monday for Alcoa to withdraw the file of termination of employment on the grounds that it is breaching "clearly" the European regulations, since the process of consultations and information should have been prior to making a decision.
