The insignia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia was imposed on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Russian Embassy in Spain attended by diplomats from the Embassy and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain.
Bregolat received this award from the Russian ambassador in Madrid, Yuri Korchagin, who highlighted the dynamic nature of cooperation between Russia and Spain and stressed that the award-winner has contributed "personally and significantly" to the development of bilateral dialogue between both countries.
For his part, Bregolat, who has been Spain's ambassador to China, Indonesia, Canada or Andorra, has expressed his gratitude for this recognition and highlighted how united it is to Russia.
Bachelor of Law from the University of Barcelona, Bregolat joined the diplomatic career in 1971. He was director of studies in the Cabinet of the President of the Government with Adolfo Suárez and Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo. In addition, he was political director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1997 and 1999.
He has been Spain's ambassador to China three times – from 1987 to 1991, from 1999 to 2003 and from 2011 to 2013 – and the government named him special ambassador of the Universal Forum of Culture Barcelona 2004.
