The rector Lluís Serra Majem, and the president of the Social Council of the ULPGC, Jesús de León Lima, have agreed to “resume the dialogue” and create a regular communication channel between them. This was stated after the first meeting held yesterday in the rector’s office since the new government team of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria took office. Both Serra and León Lima have expressed their desire to “collaborate closely for the benefit of university development.”
In this first meeting they have addressed different initiatives in which they will work together, such as an offer of new degrees and the development of Canarias Importa, launched by the Social Council with the aim of providing proposals for economic recovery after the pandemic. Both parties consider it important that the University of Las Palmas is actively involved in the social, economic and scientific development of the Canary Archipelago and that it occupies a central position in the debate on current issues.
On the agenda of the Social Council of the ULPGC, there is an extraordinary meeting of the plenary, which will be held today, March 25, in an afternoon session, to address the report of the Observatory of the University System, in which some Shortcomings in the new requirements that the competent Ministry will mark for the consideration of the universities.
