Madrid, Jul 12 (EFE) .- The International Spanish Language Assessment Service (SIELE) of the Cervantes Institute has launched this Monday a new modality that allows the candidate to take the exam remotely and on their own computer, without having to go to an Authorized Test Center.
“This novelty provides students and professionals with the conditions to carry out the test more comfortably without compromising security guarantees, since the Exam Center supervises its correct performance online and in real time,” the organization explained in a statement.
SIELE is an evaluation service created and developed by the Cervantes Institute and by three leading universities (Salamanca, Nacional Autónoma de México and Buenos Aires), managed entirely electronically by Telefónica Educación Digital, which certifies the degree of competence in the Spanish language.
It was created in 2016 and five years after its birth it now evolves to the remote system, whereby the applicant undergoes the tests of Spanish knowledge with their own computer at home or at work.
With the new remotely supervised system (RS), the candidate can obtain the SIELE Spanish certification in a facility other than an Authorized Examination Center, although the registration of this modality must be done in an Examination Center of the same country in the to be tested.
The remote SIELE presents the same content and format as in the traditional mode, and is done on the candidate’s computer by installing an application called “SIELE Navigator” that is provided when making the reservation. The necessary technical requirements of the laptop or desktop computer (cannot be done on other devices) are: internet connection, front camera, audio interface, keyboard, mouse and headphones.
As in the usual format, registration for the test can be done 48 hours in advance and at least 24 hours before the exam, the candidate must upload to the platform the official document with which they made the exam reservation and three photos of their own face, for the Exam Center to validate it remotely.
Before the test (about 30 minutes), the Authorized Examination Center contacts the candidate by WhatsApp using a QR code to check the environment and apply the security protocol.
The exam itself does not vary. It works on a scale of points? (From 0 to? 1000) with equivalences to levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 of the? Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In total, four tests are carried out: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and interaction, and oral expression and interaction.
The applicant can perform all of them (the so-called global SIELE) or choose some (there are five different combinations). The certificate is received within a maximum period of three weeks and is valid for five years.
