The trial by the procés celebrated in the Supreme Court can not meet the calendar
provided. The initial objective of the room was to finalize before the general elections of April 28. However, it is difficult to calculate how long each interrogation will last, especially in a process with more than 500 witnesses.
Given the number of statements that remain pending, the court is unable to complete the trial shortly. In fact, the new forecast is for the trial to last the month of May and at least
part of June. Therefore, the sentence will hardly be released before the start of the next course and may not be known until the last months of the year.
After the initial declaration of the accused, the court decided to modify the initial calendar
The sessions began on February 12 and, although there has been no delay, certain interrogations have been longer than expected. Statements such as that of Colonel Diego Pérez de los Cobos, the largest of the Mossos d'Esquadra Josep Lluís Trapero or Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Baena have lasted one day.
This week the sessions begin with the declaration of the head of the information brigade of the Superior Headquarters of Catalonia and the head of the provincial brigade of the Judicial Police of Barcelona. In addition, the Office of the Prosecutor will begin the interrogation of the police inspector who analyzed the videos taken by the riot police officers during the entrance to the polling stations in the referendum on October 1.
After the initial declaration of the accused, the court, presided over by Manuel Marchena, decided to modify the initial calendar and advance the interrogations of politicians, such as former President Mariano Rajoy or Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, after it was learned that Pedro Sánchez advanced the general elections to April .
None of them had been proposed by the Prosecutor's Office, but by the defenses or by the popular accusation represented by the Vox party. Once these statements were finalized, the chamber initiated the summons for the planned order of the Office of the Prosecutor. The proposed witnesses are more than 200, the majority coinciding with those of the State Bar. Then those of the defenses will come. Only the main defendant, Oriol Junqueras, has requested 70, without counting the rest of the defendants.
