The SEFH activates a COVID Solidarity Fund to bring the dispensing of medicines to the patient

The Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SEFH) has launched a new COVID Solidarity Fund for collaboration in the protection of patients in pharmacy services in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, it aims to provide assistance in dispensing with delivery to the patient’s home, carried out by the hospital pharmacy services themselves and to minimize the risk to the patient. This new fund is launched after the success of the first, which covered the period between April and July.

With this fund, the SEFH helps to comply with the provisions of Royal Decree-Law 21/2020, of June 9, on the establishment of appropriate measures for the dispensing of drugs for hospital dispensing in a non-face-to-face mode, and must be guaranteed optimal care with delivery, under the responsibility of the dispensing hospital pharmacy service.

This second phase of the fund has been activated with the institutional support of Gilead laboratories, in accordance with the terms established in the Collaboration Agreement signed between the SEFH and the collaborating entity, benefiting from the same outpatients with different pathologies.

In the opinion of Dr. Olga Delgado, president of the SEFH, this new phase of the Solidarity Fund, “is a new impulse to support remote dispensing, facilitate compliance with treatment and avoid the displacement of patients at risk, always guaranteeing care and pharmaceutical monitoring from the Hospital Pharmacy “.

For her part, María Río, vice president and general director of Gilead Spain, highlights that “it is an enormous satisfaction to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy in the work that is being carried out so excellently and in such extraordinary circumstances” . “We hope – he emphasizes – that this innovative project that aims to guarantee the supply of medicines to patients at home, will contribute to increasing the safety of patients and health professionals, reducing the risk of contagion.”

The SEFH has enabled an email so that requests for help can be addressed by the hospital pharmacy services ([email protected]), once received they can be evaluated by the Society.

The Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SEFH) is a scientific, private, active and professional, non-profit organization, dedicated to increasing the state of knowledge about hospital pharmacy and whose actions seek to improve the health outcomes of patients through proper and safe use of medications.
