The sculptor Noemí Arrocha opens the exhibition 'Deflection-reflection' at the Centro de Artes Plásticas

The creator Noemí Arrocha (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1975) opens on June 18, at 7:00 p.m., at the Cabildo Plastic Arts Center, his latest individual installment titled Deflection-reflection, a sample unequivocally linked to the material used by this sculptor (stone, marble, basalt, among others) in which Arrocha formulates a new dialogue with matter that goes beyond its own organic and formal nature to transform the space.
The individual exhibition of the artist that is now being presented at the Plastic Arts Center that the Council of Culture of the Cabildo Gran Canaria keeps open at number 8 of Colón street in the historic district of Vegueta, is inaugurated after its previous delivery called Complementary, presented two years ago at the MAPFRE Guanarteme Foundation.
The exhibition will be open to the public at the Centro de Artes Plásticas until July 16, and can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, with free admission.
The creator adds to his exposed work a reflection on light and shadow in space as a fundamental resource to complete his work as a whole, capable of unleashing a new dialogue with matter, going beyond its own organic and formal nature. Hence, matter becomes a container and generator of new perceptions, detaching itself from any preconceived idea of its own morphology. The matter (marble), worked to the limit of its mechanical resistance, creates a subtle and weak magnetism or optical behavior of transparency.
“In this way, light, when directed to matter, ends up composing the space, and is a creative part of the changing visual experiences that refer us to drawing and painting, helping to highlight the value of sculpture as an element of synthesis. of both and acts as the backbone of all the other elements ”, says the artist.
Arrocha points out that his creative process and execution methods, all intertwined with tradition, the central axis of the series Deflection-reflection, is close to the theories of Rudolf Wittkower (1968) and to the inheritance of knowledge, related, in turn, with the currents of Eastern thought (Junichiró Tamizaki (1933), not only as an elementary basis to complete the work, but also as germ that leads to perfection. "This series approaches the viewer by showing a basic and synthetic language in which the point, the line and the plane weave the gaps through which the individual and personal visual experience of the viewer is created, remembering at all times that less is more.
Noemi Arrocha Reyes, who in recent years combines her artistic life with the Agüimes Villa del Arte Project (artistic spaces open to the public of which she is the founder with Jéssica Álvarez and at the head of the Lapedradadenoemi artistic residency, begins her first steps in art attending the School of Arts and Crafts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. After passing through the school, he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts to later expand his training at L`Accademia del Belle Arti di Carrara in Italy, where he graduated in Sculpture. His line of work is unequivocally linked to material, a medium that allows him to reflect his vision and interpretation of the world. Matter, the companion stone in his dialogue that in these years has been mixed and configured in new ways in which he coexists with metal. and resins, it is seen as a dialogue that maintains nuances between the figurative, the abstract and the formal.
Noemí Arrocha's exhibition is organized within the framework of the exhibition program of the Centro de Artes Plásticas, which selected a dozen artists in a public call that until the end of this year 2021, will successively occupy its exhibition space with their respective proposals.
