The Real society has terminated his coach's contract, Asier Garitano. In a statement, the blue and white entity thanked the coach for his "all the contribution, professionalism and dedication "that, according to the team, has shown during the exercise of its functions and wishes him" the best "for his professional and personal future.
Garitano had arrived in San Sebastian last May after saying goodbye to a long five-year stint at Leganés, a team that, in only three years, it went up from Second B to First Division. The city of Madrid recognized his achievements by distinguishing him as an adopted son of Leganés while winning individual awards such as the Miguel Muñoz prize for best Second Technician.
The Madrid team offered to renew, but the coach preferred to go to Real Sociedad, where he replaced the interim coach Imanol Alguacil, who in turn had replaced at the end of the previous season the previous coach, Eusebio Sacristán. Now it will be the bailiff himself who, again, will take over the team.
The Real Sociedad occupies the 15th position of the league after having lost the last four league games and is only four points above the descent, numbers that in the last 15 years only worsened in the 2006/2007 season, which ended with the team txuri urdin descending to the Second Division.
William José, the team's 'nine' reference, has not seen the door since September, Sandro has not yet made his debut and players like Januzaj or Mikel Merino, who in the last games have not started, are not not responding to the expecativas deposited in them. Only Theo Hernández from the left wing and Mikel Oyarzábal are being able to hold the team.
The leaders of the club hope that the Christmas break and the change of coach will give new life to a team built to fight, at least, to occupy Europa League positions. With Garitano, there are now six coaches dismissed so far this season.
