The road, train and light cuts in Asturias continue due to the storm

The snowstorm keeps in Asturias cut dozens of secondary roads and rail traffic with the plateau, as well as the light service for thousands of homes.

The intensity of the storm also led yesterday to the Ministry of Education of the Principality to suspend classes today in 15 schools in southwestern Asturias in which more than 1,300 students study, in the councils of Cangas del Narcea, Degaña, Ibias and Allande.

In a day in which the State Agency of Meteorology (Aemet) foresees that it will continue snowing at a level of 600 meters, the technicians of the Principality and the electric companies will continue working to resolve the power cuts, which yesterday affected about 13. 500 homes in the central zone, mining valleys and southwest of the region.

The snow keeps cut sixteen mountain passes this morning and another dozen secondary network roads, where chains are needed in a large number of roads, according to data provided by 112-Asturias.

In the main road network the traffic for trucks in the port of Pajares (N-630) between Asturias and León is cut, while on the Huerna highway (AP-66), the main road communication between the Principality and the plateau, there are no restrictions.

The accumulation of snow also keeps the rail traffic between Asturias and León interrupted, so Renfe maintains an alternative road transport plan for those rail services from or to Oviedo and Gijón.
