The Federal Committee of the PSOE will analyze this Saturday the strategic lines of the Executive this legislature and the political situation, with special attention to the negotiations with Catalonia, and with the presence of practically all the socialist barons, which reinforces the image of unity.
In principle, all socialist barons plan to go to the Federal Committee except for the president of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, who has justified the absence due to agenda problems.
Speaking to Efe, the president of the Federal Committee and mayor of Dos Hermanas (Sevilla), Francisco Toscano, explained that the general secretary of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, does not need the party’s endorsement of the dialogue with Catalonia “because he already has it” .
“Another thing is when the negotiation advances and bears fruit on concrete things, which will be submitted to the relevant body,” he added and admitted that the topic will foresee “reflections” by the members of the Committee, which will be heard because “there is no nothing hidden. “
Although Vara does not come, he has made clear his “total support for the decisions made in the Federal Executive”, to which he belongs.
The Federal Committee, the highest party organ between congresses, will begin this Saturday with the report of the secretary general in which he will analyze the political situation, communicate the strategic lines of the Government and approve the budget bases of the PSOE for the year 2020.
The meeting of this body will also take place in an electoral key once the Basque Country and Galicia have already called their elections for April 5, and waiting for Catalonia, a community capable of marking the Spanish political calendar.
Sources of the PSOE have explained to Efe that it is an ordinary committee, which is expected to be quiet, and in which no discrepancies are expected from the most controversial barons (such as Castilla-La Mancha or Aragon) that in recent weeks have He showed his discomfort regarding different political decisions of the Executive regarding Catalonia.
The socialist federations, in general, have expressed to Efe their willingness to support the Government’s policy for the resolution of the Catalan conflict although they will be attentive to the speech of the Secretary General.
The last Federal Committee was held on September 28, to prepare the 10N call.
