The PSOE closes ranks around Sánchez's strategy to repeat elections in search of stability

The PSOE has staged this Saturday a closing of ranks around the strategy of its leader, Pedro Sánchez, to repeat elections rather than yield to the demands of United We on the coalition government, which would have resulted in an unstable executive doomed, sooner rather than later, to an electoral advance, according to the vision of the party leadership.

At the meeting of the Federal Committee of the PSOE, the highest organ of the party between congresses, held at the headquarters of Ferraz, no reproaches have been heard for the failure of the negotiation with Podemos or warnings regarding the risk of returning to the polls again.

The score of interventions that have been made by members of the Committee in the closed-door meeting have been aimed at instilling courage in the face of November 10, to endorse Sanchez's strategy and also to value the courage shown to get Francisco Franco out. of the Valley of the Fallen, an operation that, with the endorsement of the Supreme Court, the Government intends to carry out before the electoral campaign starts on November 1, as they have agreed to point out different attendees to the meeting.

Of course, there have been notable absences in this event, such as that of the presidents of the Balearic Islands and Extremadura, Francina Armengol and Guillermo Fernández Vara, who have alleged agenda problems; that of the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, who has canceled at the last moment because he is indisposed, and that of the president of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, in this case for an official trip to France.

The leader of the Andalusian socialists, Susana Díaz, has also excused assistance for a family commitment, but the head of the Andalusian delegation, Juan Cornejo, has assumed the vision that the party's leadership has of the blockade: forming a government has been impossible because of Inadmissible impositions of Podemos and for the lack of responsibility of PP and Citizens to not be willing to abstain and commit to the stability of Spain.

But the party seems to have turned the page of the reproaches phase to focus on explaining what it has to offer citizens. And in this sense, the message focuses on presenting itself as the only training with a project for the whole country and trained to provide stability.

"We are a left-wing party that represents the centrality," Sanchez told them when he was a hundred members of the Federal Committee in his intervention to close the meeting and that it has been behind closed doors, unlike his opening speech, which has been followed in open.

The campaign strategy of the PSOE, which the party management shared on Friday with the federations in a meeting of the secretaries of Organization, responds to the classic model of pointing to the PP as the main adversary. Either Sanchez governs or Pablo Casado does it with the support of Ciudadanos and the extreme right of Vox, it is the dilemma posed by the Socialists.

Hence, in his opening speech Sánchez only referred to the threat of "backward movement" that the right represents and it is obvious to mention Podemos and the new party of Íñigo Errejón, Más País, with the aim of cornering these two formations in the space to the left of the PSOE they are fighting for.

"The Socialists are the only ones who can do more country," has defended ironically the secretary general of the PSOE of La Rioja, Francisco Ocón, in his turn of speech, have informed socialist sources, indicating that the meeting of the Committee has not talked about the new Errejón party because these meetings are called to talk about the PSOE and not what happens in other parties.

Sanchez has asked his people not to waste time with the reproaches and put the focus on the important thing: make a positive campaign that serves to explain the project that the PSOE has for Spain and that is backed by facts, not just words , since they have been governing Spain for 15 months, in addition to leading numerous municipalities and Autonomous Communities.

This wide presence throughout the country is one of the strengths that Sánchez will seek to show in the campaign to differentiate himself from other parties. As he has put in value in his speech, only the number of councilors that the PSC has in the province of Barcelona exceeds those that add PP and Citizens throughout Catalonia. And the same happens in the province of Biscay.

Therefore, a party like the PP cannot aspire to preside over the country as a residual force in territories as relevant as Catalonia or the Basque Country, in Sánchez's opinion.

After the staging of this image of unity and strength within the PSOE, Sanchez will dive into the pre-campaign this week, with party acts practically daily in various parts of the Spanish geography.

This Sunday he will participate in the traditional Fiesta de la Rosa that the PSC celebrates every year in the Gava Pineda, in the metropolitan area of Barcelona; on Monday he will present the PSOE campaign in Madrid to 10N; on Tuesday he will give a rally in Zaragoza and on Wednesday, another in Valencia; and on Thursday he will travel to Extremadura with a double objective: to attend the inauguration of the Livestock Fair of Zafra (Badajoz) and to give a rally in Cáceres in the afternoon.

On Friday he is expected for another act of party in Asturias, while on Saturday he will close the Atlantic Forum of La Toja (Pontevedra) and on Sunday he will accompany in Barakaldo (Vizcaya) the proclamation of Idoia Mendia as a candidate of the socialists to lehendakari in the 2020 elections.
