The PSC has registered this Friday two requests of appearances in the Parlament, those of the Minister of the Interior, Miquel Buch, and that of the new consellera de Presidència, Meritxell Budó, with the objective that they inform about the new Institutional Seguretat Area and the process of selecting the agents that are part of this unit.
The Socialists claim these parliamentary appearances in the Commission of Institutional Affairs of the Catalan Chamber after knowing that the Government is evaluating 148 mossos to be part of this unit, as published The newspaper. Apparently, the Catalan Executive would be carrying out a selection process to create this area destined to protect exclusively Catalan ex presidents, with exclusive dependence on Presidència and without control of the Mossos pre-bill.
The Socialists ask for the appearance of the Consellers of Interior and Presidency
The Government approved the creation of the Institutional Seguretat Area at the end of January with the aim of guaranteeing the security of the President of the Generalitat, the ex-presidents and the head of the Department of the Presidency. The former spokesperson, Elsa Artadi, explained then that the unit would have personnel from the Mossos d'Esquadra, for which it would depend on the Department of the Interior, although it did not detail the specific actions that had to be carried out.
The Catalonian Executive limited itself to explaining that the area would be destined to "guarantee the safety of the president, of the expresidents and of the head of the consellería", they did not even specify the place in which they had to carry out these tasks and they only emphasized the necessity of "Implement measures aimed at protecting the staff and facilities of the Palau de la Generalitat".
The Govern approved the creation of the Institutional Seguretat Area at the end of January with the aim of guaranteeing the security of the President of the Generalitat, the ex-presidents and the head of the Department of the Presidency.
Artadi explained at the time that this unit was based on the one that States like Spain have: "We replicate the same model of the States," he said. "It is understood that there are different security measures" and that is why an area with "greater flexibility" is created. In short, the Catalan Executive justified that "we are replicating the model of the Spanish State."
The creation of this area came after the Government approved a few weeks ago authorization for all departments of the Generalitat take a match to shield for life the "care and support they need" the presidents, an authorization designed exclusively for the former chief of the Socialist Government, Pasqual Maragall. But it also came a few months after the Interior Ministry refused to endow Carles Puigdemont with the escort services he had requested last June.
