The price of electricity rises this Sunday by more than 5%

The average price of electricity in the wholesale market will rise 5.11% this Sunday compared to this Saturday, when it had fallen 4.54% compared to Friday. This day, it will stand at 229.62 euros per megawatt hour (MWH), according to data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator. High levels, despite lower demand on weekends.

The maximum price of electricity in the wholesale market has occurred this Sunday between 00 and 01 hours, with 269.66 euros / MWh. The minimum will be registered between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m., with 107.79 euros / MWh.

The prices of the ‘pool’ have a direct effect on the regulated tariff –the so-called PVPC–, to which almost 11 million consumers in the country are welcomed, and serves as a reference for the other 17 million who have contracted their supply in the free market .

This increase in the price of electricity in recent months is mainly explained by high gas prices in the markets and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission rights, at record highs this year.

After starting a month of November down with respect to October, the price of electricity in the wholesale market has tightened again this week due to the increase in the price of natural gas, mainly due to the decision of Germany to suspend the certification of the gas pipeline ‘Nord Stream 2’, intended to carry gas from Russia to other parts of Europe via the Baltic Sea.
