The president of BME, Antonio Zoido, has made a balance of the year 2018 in the Spanish Stock Exchange. Among the most important data is that international investors already own 46% of the shares of national companies, a new historical record. In the last decade, the ownership of shares in foreign hands has risen significantly from 36.8% in 2008.
On the other hand, the presence of Spanish families in the market has fallen to the area of historical lows, representing 19.7% of the total compared to the 24.4% reached in 2015.
The year that is about to end has been weak from the point of view of stock trading. The volume of contracting decreased by 9% year-on-year to 550,000 million euros.
For their part, shareholders have received more than 25,600 million in dividends this year, an amount that exceeds by 3.9% the amount of 2017.
