The President of El Salvador authorizes the use of lethal force to confront the gangs

The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, said this Sunday that “the use of lethal force is authorized” for the security forces in defense of their lives and of citizens in the face of the rise in homicides registered since Friday and attributed to the gangs, accused of the majority of murders committed in the country.

“The use of lethal force is authorized for self-defense or for the defense of the lives of Salvadorans,” said the president from his Twitter account, noting that “the gangs are taking advantage of almost all” of the “force public is controlling the coronavirus “pandemic.

He added that “the Government will be responsible for the legal defense of those who are unfairly accused, for defending the lives of honest people” and urged the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) to “prosecute gang allies” for ” terrorist associations “and” advocacy of terrorism “.

The president also instructed that members of the Police and the Army give priority to addressing the escalation of homicides in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a serious blow to the containment strategy with the surveillance of the uniformed personnel in the Street.
