The PP accuses Arrimadas of betraying “his word” to allow “the radicals” to govern in Murcia

The Popular Party has learned of the motion of censure agreed between the PSOE and Ciudadanos to unseat them from the Government of the Region of Murcia while the central Executive control session was held in the Congress of Deputies. The surprise has prevented the popular leaders who have intervened in the Plenary from evaluating the motion during their successive speeches, although later sources from Pablo Casado’s leadership have sent an improvised reaction in which they have placed the center of their attacks on the current leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas.

For the national leadership of the PP the motion “is an agreement of Citizens with PSOE and United We Can. That is, Arrimadas pacts with Iglesias and allows the radicals to govern in Murcia.” “It is a great irresponsibility. And it brings enormous instability in the middle of the pandemic for no reason,” say Genoa 13 sources who accuse the president of Ciudadanos of “breaking her word”, since according to Casado’s team she said that the agreement to govern in coalition with the PP in the Region of Murcia “would last four years.”

“In these times of serious health, social and economic crisis, we need stable governments. The most reasonable thing is that we all focus on the urgent: overcoming the pandemic, supporting the affected sectors and advancing in the recovery. This is what citizens expect” , For his part, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, has assured that, like his colleagues in the PP of Murcia, he governs in coalition with Ciudadanos and that at this time maintains a tough battle with the national leadership of his party for the control of the PP in Andalusia, which his team accuses precisely of trying to “destabilize” his government.

Arrimadas, for his part, has avoided evaluating the motion in Congress and, in informal conversation with journalists, has assured that its leader in Murcia, Ana Martínez Vidal, will explain everything in a forthcoming speech to the press. From Vox, its leader, Santiago Abascal has not wanted to delve into the matter either, although in a brief informal conversation with journalists he pointed out that “Citizens are never surprising” and that the fact that the Arrimadas formation has joined the motion was something to be expected. Asked if this new alliance between Citizens and PSOE could also produce a motion of censure in the Community of Madrid to unseat Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Abascal has assured that it is not ruled out since “anything can happen.”

Minutes later, the leader of the extreme right reacted officially on his Twitter account demanding the calling of regional elections in the territories “that are at risk of being assaulted by socialism”, such as Andalusia, Castilla y León and Madrid. However, socialist sources maintain that the operation negotiated with Citizens to seize the Government from the PP is limited to the Region of Murcia.

In the early hours, PSOE and Ciudadanos registered motions of censure in the Murcia Regional Assembly and in the capital city council to remove the Popular Party from the Government. Both parties, which were reluctant to confirm the information until the writings had been officially registered, add up to 23 seats, the minimum necessary to form an absolute majority, so the motion would go ahead. The Socialists, convinced that the operation will be successful, would remain with the mayor of Murcia, while the presidency of the Region would fall on Cs and its current leader, Ana Martínez Vidal. Sources from the Murcia City Council also ratify to this medium the upcoming fall of the mayor of the Popular Party, José Ballesta, in favor of a new Executive agreed between PSOE and Cs.

Against all odds, and in an environment of maximum tension, Ciudadanos has decided to break the deck and turn its back on the PP, its government partner both at the regional and local level. The talks between the leadership of Pedro Sánchez and that of Inés Arrimadas have lasted for more than a month, although everything has been precipitated tonight, according to a prominent socialist leader. In the conversations with the Citizens’ leadership, the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, José Luis Ábalos; the person in charge of Territorial Coordination, Santos Cerdán; and the Secretary General of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños.
