The port of Algeciras (Cádiz) has registered just over 6,000 vehicle entries at 7:00 p.m. and expects to exceed 8,000 vehicles at the end of this Saturday, the first of those classified as a "peak date" for the arrival of travelers in the framework of Operation Strait Passage (OPE).
According to Efe sources from the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) have been informed, the intensity of the arrivals has been noticed in the port of Algecireño since the first hours, when the passage of more than one thousand vehicles has been recorded in the two first hours
The APBA has already used today the port enclosure known as Llano Amarillo for use as an input circuit for OPE vehicles, in order to channel arrivals and have them better controlled to facilitate shipments.
The General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies, under the Ministry of Interior, foresees that in the phase of exit of the operation, the days estimated as having the greatest influx are July 27, 28, 29 and 30, as well as 3, 4 and August 5, for those who activate all measures aimed at guaranteeing fluency both on the road and on shipments.
In order to achieve the greatest possible fluency, the Special Civil Protection Plan of the OPE, which is headed by the Undersecretary of the Department, has been reinforced by the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of Interior, and the Department's undersecretary has been activated, and they have been activated the different planned plans, such as citizen security or health and social care, among others.
The port of Algeciras supports more than 70% of the traffic of this device, the largest in Civil Protection in Europe, designed to coordinate the arrival of Maghreb travelers who go or return on vacation to their countries of origin from different parts of Europe.
