The spokesman of the Union of Police of Catalonia (SPC), David Miquel, has cataloged of "absolute failure" the police deployment of the Mossos d'Esquadra last night in the surroundings of the Parliament and asks, on behalf of the group, the resignation of the conseller of Interior, Miquel Buch, and all his team.
Speaking to Efe, the spokesman expressed the frustration of all members of the union in the absence of foresight of the director of the Mossos for the attempted assault of the Parlament by pro-independence protesters during the commemoration of the first anniversary of the referendum on October 1 of 2017.
The union calls "serious irresponsibility" the measures adopted and ensures that what happened is not something specific, but a clear example of "incompetence" in the face of a situation that could have been solved with a smaller number of injured.
Of the six units available on Monday, said the spokesman, only two were available in Barcelona, and without the presence of superior agents, who were conducting a training course.
According to the union, the remaining units (four) offered to help in Barcelona but the director preferred to reject the extension of the device.
As a result of this decision, he explains, the majority of Mossos who were called at the last minute to reinforce the deployment of the Parlament were forced to carry out their work without the proper clothing and, in several cases, without helmets or protections on the extremities.
The fact that patrollers had to defend the Parlament, something that, says the spokesman, is unprecedented in his 25 years of service, caused a total of 32 Mossos wounded by blows and throws of bottles and fences by the protesters.
The union indicates that they begin to be "a little tired" of the lack of support from the Interior Ministry and strongly criticizes the fact that no politician defended the body of Mossos after the aggressions received in the police demonstration of the past Saturday in Barcelona.
