The works of the sets of movie theater and television driven by the Town hall they advance at a good pace and will place Gran Canaria at the national cinematographic avant-garde, since they are public platforms built exprofeso for audiovisual productions, since most of the existing ones are refurbished ships, and their design has harmonized all the needs that any producer can have national or international at the end of 2020, by the time they are scheduled to be completed.
These are also "unique in the Canary" sets, said the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales during his tour of the works, which were awarded by the Cabildo last July to Satocan for 5.5 million euros.
This initiative responds, in fact, to the demand of the producers themselves interested in filming not only outdoors, but also indoors, and thus seek greater growth in the audiovisual industry, for which the island Government has decidedly bet.
The works are already executed in seven percent, which means having advanced in recent weeks in the work of earthworks, foundations and concrete walls of the low level of both sets, which are almost finished.
The closing walls of the South-facing Plató 1 are concreted to the height of 6 meters in which they join with the exterior finish of the facade, while in the east orientation 75 percent of the total length is executed and in the 10 percent north, explained architect Carmen Machado.
With respect to Plató 2, the south and east walls are also concreted to the expected height of approximately 6 meters, while 50 percent of the total length is executed in the west orientation and 25 percent in the north.
The anchoring plates from which the pillars of the metal structure that covers both sets will start have been placed on top of the finished concrete walls.
The works have an execution period of 14 months, so the forecast is that they are completed in the last quarter of 2020. On the other hand, the Cabildo is already working on the tender for the management of the services of the Center so that, a Once finished its construction, they can be at full capacity as soon as possible.
It should be remembered that the sets will be built on a plot of 21,000 square meters, adjacent to the fairgrounds, on which an area of 6,000 square meters will be built distributed in two diaphanous warehouses with useful surfaces of 1,800 and 1,200 square meters, respectively.
To each of them will be attached annexed areas for various uses, such as changing rooms, dressing rooms, makeup room, bathrooms, dining room, offices, technical rooms, meeting room, warehouses, workshop and a garbage room, among others. They will also have a common entrance and reception area.
The Economic Promotion Society of Gran Canaria, Morales recalled, detected at the beginning of the previous mandate a demand from international producers to be able to shoot indoors, so in 2016 it acquired the plot from the State for 1.2 million euros and took contest the drafting of technical projects, which was followed by the contest for the clearing of the land, until the work can be tendered.
However, the modern Production Center will not only respond to that need for Gran Canaria to shoot more days on the island, but in fact will also capture more films, feature films and series. TV shows, documentaries and advertising, for which it is crucial to have a suitable place to shoot interiors.
