The pioneers of ‘bio’ food are in rural Spain




More than 20 years ago, hearing about ‘bio’ food seemed something exotic in Spain, and very few could predict the dizzying impulse that this activity would receive. Currently, the area of ​​organic crops reaches 2.35 million hectares (2019) and employs 42,000 producers. Spaniards consume organic products worth 2,363 million euros, 2.24% of all food consumption, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. Among the pioneers stands out Huercasa, a family business specialized in 5th range plant products (legumes, corn …) ready to eat and preserved naturally.
