The 35 Canary Islands International Music Festival (FIMC) programs two concerts of the lady of the piano Martha Argerich (Buenos Aires, 1941), accompanied on this occasion by the Quiroga Quartet, on January 22, in the Tenerife Adán Martín Auditorium, from 20:00 hours, audition that can also be heard in the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on January 24, at the same time.
The concert was presented on Monday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the presence of the four members of the Quiroga Quartet, Aitor Hevia (first violin), Cibran Sierra (fiddle), Josep Puchades (viola) and Helena Poggio (violoncello), as well as the Canarian composer Cecilia Díaz Pestano, whose work will premiere this group. The deputy councilor of Culture of the Government also participated in the informative act, Aurelio González, and the director of the Festival, Jorge Perdigón
With this concert Martha Argerich Once again, he met up with the Festival, which had the honor of closing the 2009 edition. On this occasion, the program is opened by the Partita No. 2 in C minor, of Bach, a work well known by the Argentinean interpreter that, as was evident in the documentary Evening Talks, he plays every morning when he gets up and with which he starts his performances in public because he assures that it has a reassuring effect. After two solo pieces by the Quiroga Quartet, the famous pianist will close the concert with the Quintet for piano op. 44 in E flat major, of Schumann.
Before the Quiroga Quartet, awarded a few months ago with the National Music Award, will be in charge of interpreting the premiere piece, commissioned by the FIMC for this edition, The eyes of the mirror, work of the Canarian composer Cecilia Díaz Pestano, Besides of Quartet nº1, of Ginastera. It will be an opportunity to enjoy in the capital islands a group that is also leading a tour of the rest of the islands and which is considered one of the most unique camera sets of the new generation.
One hour before the start, at 7:00 pm, there will be an introductory talk by the musician and popularizer Ricardo Ducatenzeiler in order to familiarize the viewer with the works and interpreters who will listen next, who has the financial collaboration of Fundación Cepsa. Argerich, the legend
Winner of three Grammy awards, some critics consider Argerich as the Clara Schumann of the twentieth century, in addition to the best pianist in the world currently alive. On the uniqueness of appearing with the Quiroga Quartet, the pianist notes that "I like to be in contact with musicians and I am encouraged to play with all of them, whether they are more or less known, younger or older, whether they make a career or not". In the end, he says, "I enjoy those experiences, I like to live them". He concludes by stating that "there are those who suppose that the stars must play in the company of stars, but it enriches me to do it with each other." I leave the prejudices aside and, at least, I have to prove how they play and what causes me to interpret together to them".
However, the pianist herself has revealed that feeling of loneliness that invades her on stage during the performance and, perhaps for this reason, offered very few solo piano recitals before 1980, focusing her career on concerts for piano and orchestra , chamber music and instrumental accompaniment in sonata. Especially recognized are the duets with his compatriot, the orchestra conductor Daniel Baremboin, or with his friend, the Brazilian Nelson Freire, who frequently accompanies her on his tours.
Some of her thoughts can give an idea of the deep personality of this interpreter: "When the pianos do not love me, I do not touch them"; "Chopin is collapse, exclusive, makes you touch badly anything else you touch"; "Yes, I know, speed is my nature, my tendency: the demon that I have … A quilombo" or also. Martha Argerich She began studying at a very young age with her mother and in 1945, at only four years of age, she offered her first recital in public. It was eight years old when he gave his first formal concert, playing the Concert for piano op. fifteen, of Beethoven, and received classes Vicente Sxaramuzza, also a teacher, among others, of Bruno Gelber.

Argerich has contracted marriage three times and all of them musical. The first with Robert Chen, father of Lyda, his eldest daughter. From 1969 to 1973, with the conductor Charles Dutoit, with which he had his second daughter, named Annie, and his third husband was the pianist Stephen Kovacevich, fruit of which would be born his third daughter, Stephanie.
In 1957 he not only won the Busoni Award from Bolzano, but also that of the Geneva contest, while in 1965 he received the Warsaw Chopin Prize and the prize of the Polish radio for his interpretations of the waltzes and mazurkas of Chopin.
By then, at the age of 24, she was already an accomplished pianist and as attractive as a "nouvelle vague" actress: she wore miniskirts and smoked one cigarette after another. In 1974 he appeared in New York, achieved a resounding success. At that time he recorded the concerts of Ravel, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, First of Chopin, Third of Bártov and Third of Prokofiev.
In the 1980s he turned his interest towards chamber music and interaction with other musicians, while opening himself up to a solidary vision, helping the social projection of young musicians.
In 1986 he appeared at the Teatro Colón in his hometown, Buenos Aires, to tackle the single evening Second concert for piano, of Beethoven, the Third of Prokofiev and the First of Liszt, with the Philharmonic of Buenos Aires directed by Simon Blech. In September 1999, the pianist created in the Colón the first festival and an international competition that bore her name, an initiative that collapsed in 2005 because of public authorities that "tuned out". Fortunately, the Japanese city of Beppu has kept alive for almost twenty years the Argerich's Meeting Point Festival (Meeting Point), where music plays throughout a month of concerts.
It has been recognized, especially, for its interpretations of classical composers of the 20th century, such as Rachmaninov, Messiaen Y Prokofiev, and counts among its recordings with which it is considered one of its most notable, in which it gathers the Piano concert nº 3, of Rachmaninov, and the Piano Concerto No. 1, of Tchaikovsky. In the years 2000, 2005 and 2006 he obtained three Grammy awards.
The piece that premieres these concerts, The eyes of the mirror, has been composed by the Tenerife Cecilia Díaz Pestano, winner of Award for the best Canarian author composition of CajaCanarias in its edition of 2018 and with an outstanding career. Born in 1982, she premiered her first work in 2004 Appeal and since then he has created more than twenty pieces, which have been heard in different stages and festivals inside and outside the Canary Islands.
