The number of passengers on domestic flights it increased by 10% in 2018 with respect to 2017, while AVE users increased by 3.8%, according to data released Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Only last December, users of internal flights increased by 7.3% in relation to the same month of 2017, while trips in AVE grew by 2.9%.

In 2018, more than 4,905.7 million passengers used public transport, 3.1% more than in 2017, which has been growing for four years.

Last year, el urban transport increased by 2.7% (4.6% more by metro and 1.5% by bus) and the intercity one, 3,6% (the transport by rail grew 4,4%, the maritime one, 3,1%, and by bus, 2,6%).

In the air transport, the peninsular flights grew by 7.1%; those that connect the peninsula with the rest of the territory, 9.2%, and the inter-island ones, 22.9%.

In 2018, the Palma metro was the one with the highest increase (21%), followed by Málaga (9.7%), Seville (5.7%) and Valencia (5.4%).

The metro with the highest number of travelers in 2018 was Madrid (657.2 million), followed by Barcelona (407.5 million).

Back to the data of December 2018, more than 398.2 million passengers used public transport that month, thanks to the increase of 5.4% of urban transport and 5.2% of intercity.

Transportation by metro increased by 6.1% in annual rate and the Palma metro was also the one with the highest increase, of 23.8%.

In intercity, rail transport grew by 5.9% and by bus, 4.5.
