The OPE maintains the upward trend and this year exceeds 217,000 shipments



Operation Paso del Estrecho (OPE), which officially began on June 15, maintains the upward trend in movement of people and vehicles, after having already exceeded 217,000 shipments in the first fortnight of this annual operation.

According to the data provided to Efe by Civil Protection, since June 15 and until this Wednesday 217,909 people and 49,008 vehicles have been shipped in Spanish ports in 1,343 boat rotations.

The figures improved passenger traffic by 3.3% and vehicle traffic by 7.5% compared to the same period of 2018 when 210,878 people and 45,587 vehicles had already embarked on 1,313 rotations of the shipping companies participating in this transit. Maghrebi emigrants.

The maritime line of the Strait of Gibraltar continues to monopolize the largest number of shipments since the route linking Algeciras (Cádiz) with Tangier-Med (Morocco) accumulates 37.9% of shipments, followed by Algeciras-Ceuta (24.4 %), Tarifa-Tangier-Ville (8.9%), Almería-Nador (7.3%), Almería-Melilla (5.6%) and Málaga-Melilla (4.5%).

In this phase of departure participate the ports of Algeciras, Alicante, Almeria, Malaga, Motril, Tarifa and Valencia in their lines with the ports of Ceuta, Tangier-Med, Algiers, Oran, Ghazaouet, Melilla, Nador, Alhucemas, Tangier-Ville and Mostaganem.

In this period, 463 social assistance and 179 sanitary assistance have been registered, without any significant incident in the transit of the Maghrebis who work in Europe and spend their vacations in their countries of origin.
