The Ombudsman of Catalonia sees little coordination in the case of the battered baby

The Síndic de Greuges considers that there have been "shortcomings" in information, communication and coordination between the health and social services that intervened in the case of the baby who is admitted in a serious condition at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, allegedly mistreated by his father.

At a press conference, the Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, has made these considerations known after the meeting he held this Friday with representatives of the Directorate General for Childhood and Adolescence (DGAIA), the municipality of Pineda de Mar ( Barcelona), where the baby lived for two months, with his parents, and the Health Department of the Generalitat.

Ribó has announced that he will propose the elaboration of a specific protocol for the protection of babies from possible abuse, even in the prenatal stage, given that they are moments of "difficult visibility" of these situations.

This new protocol seeks to prevent the abuse of babies and complement the existing one, called the Alba Protocol, which was developed as a result of a situation similar to a 5-year-old girl who suffered serious health consequences for life.
