The representatives of the Dia Board and the unions have had their third meeting on the ERE today that the supermarket chain wants to undertake in the company. In principle, the layoffs were going to affect up to 2,064 people. However, after the negotiation table held today, this number has been reduced by 18%, up to 1,688 workers, as reported in a statement by both parties.
In particular, Dia has agreed to exclude 29 stores from the ERE, where 304 people work, and to relocate 72 employees in warehouses. The warehouses affected by this agreement would be the Cross dockin of Valencia (with 10 jobs), that of Orihuela (20), Sabadell (25), Villanubla (9) and the cross docking of Asturias (8 posts).
The unions UGT, Fetico and CCOO assure that they will continue in the next meetings, the next one will be held on the 12th of this month, trying to minimize the impact of the dismissals. In addition, they request the number of workers with "temporary contracts in unaffected stores to continue guaranteeing the greatest number of jobs". Likewise, claim an early retirement plan for those employees of greater age.
The representatives of the workers, likewise, have once again insisted on the need to undertake a capital increase on March 20 at the shareholders' meeting, due to the company's poor financial situation. The supermarket chain, which recently presented the worst results in its history, is in a situation of "technical bankruptcy" having a negative equity of 98 million euros.
