The new Prime Minister of Haiti, Frank William Michel, proposed a cabinet with ten men and eight women, which will be a record if Parliament gives its approval to the formation of Government.
The cabinet, composed mostly of strangers in the political arena, has women in important portfolios, such as Foreign, which will be occupied by Marjorie Alexandre Brunache, and Justice and Public Security, which will be in charge of Magarette Toussaint Georges, Official sources reported Thursday.
Six other women will occupy the portfolios of Health, Women's Rights, Education, Youth and Sports, Tourism and that of Haitians Living Abroad.
This Government, if it manages to be invested, will be a milestone for including eight women, since so far the record was four during the Executive of Prime Minister Joseph Jean-Max Bellerive (2009-2011), under the presidency of René Preval.
The new Prime Minister, appointed last Monday by President Jovenel Moise, will also simultaneously occupy the External Planning and Cooperation portfolio.
The announcement of the almost equal government did not calm the opposition groups and civil society that demand the resignation of President Moise for suspicions of corruption that dot him.
"We know well that the problem is Jovenel Moise, it is not about changing the government every six months. The president is an obstacle to popular demands. We as activists want Jovenel to resign with his teams. We will return to the street soon to prevent the vote in Parliament for the new government and also to get Jovenel out of power, "Olrich Jean Pierre, an activist with the Konbit trade union movement, told Efe.
Haiti is experiencing a serious political and economic and security crisis, which has kept the country's institutions paralyzed for months and has made Michel the fourth prime minister in twelve months.
Moise appointed Michel on Monday after Jean-Michel Lapin's resignation that day, which failed to get Parliament's approval.
Haiti is in constant instability since a wave of violent protests broke out in mid-2018.
These manifestations increasingly demand the resignation of the president for the suspicions that he could benefit from illegally stolen funds from the Petrocaribe program, through which Venezuela has provided aid to several countries in the Antilles region.
