The Tax Agency reinforces the fight against drug trafficking and illegal smuggling by awarding to Airbus the construction of a medium-sized "Dauphin" twin-engine helicopter to increase surveillance capacity against these activities. The ship, valued at 12.7 million euros, will be operational from November 30, 2021, once its delivery is completed.
The Treasury maintains the pulse of drug trafficking, smuggling, money laundering and tax fraud, practices whereby the State ceases to enter more than 1,000 million annually. The hiring was authorized by the Council of Ministers last April before the obsolescence of the BO105 helicopters and the suitability of the AS365N3 model, as indicated by the agency in the announcement published Monday in the Official State Gazette (BOE). "It is urgent to undertake a gradual renewal of the fleet to be able to maintain, and even intensify, the activities against smuggling and drug trafficking," as indicated by the Tax Agency, since the last of these ships entered service in 2008 .
The new helicopter will complement the three existing ones of the same model, "looking for the homogeneity of the fleet and the flight and maintenance activities". The ship will go to the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency that will provide essential air support to achieve these objectives, according to the Government, which adds that these means are especially important in the Campo de Gibraltar area, given the intensification that has taken place in recent years.
