Manufacturers have begun to market the routers prepared for the new wireless connection standard (802.11 ax) and the companies of technological devices prepare their products for a system that provides more security, more speed and more density in traffic, among other advantages. Samsung has opened the gap with the Galaxy S10, already prepared for the new era. Huawei has joined the Korean company.
"It's like a highway with more lanes and where we can get more vehicles and bigger," explains Jesus Yanes, director of New Business for Spain of lto Taiwanese company for the development of connectivity solutions EnGenius.
The 5G, the mobile vanguard, will not replace the wireless connection. Quite the opposite. "The new generation of telephony and wifi they are two complementary vertices of the triangle of technology, "says Federico Ruiz, head of the 5G National Observatory.
The new technology is fundamental to the hegemony of the wireless connection in our lives. According to the Cisco report Mobile Visual Networking Index, in 2022, global fixed and mobile Internet traffic will be 29% wired, 51% by wifi and 20% by mobile. In Spain, the forecast is higher: 24% wired, 64% wifi and 12% mobile.
Cisco has taken to the recent Mobile World Congres its gateway for wifi 6. "The new wireless standard can offer three to four times the performance of the previous standards, latency less than milliseconds and the support of up to 70 devices per 100 square meters, "says the company.
Compatible with our current equipment
The arrival of wifi6 does not require modifying domestic or business equipment, as it is compatible with current devices, although the new technology will be more efficient if the terminal is ready.
WiFi 6 will allow transmission speeds of 1Gb in the 2.4Ghz band and up to 4.8Gb in the 5Ghz band (with eight simultaneous transmissions available). In addition to faster, will have more capacity: up to 10 Gbps up, between three and four times higher than current systems. The transmission of audiovisual data will be especially benefited.
Another advantage is the highest traffic density that supports, a relevant aspect in a society where more and more devices are connected simultaneously and where the Internet of Things (IoT) multiplies the needs. The new protocol also improves the management of users and the information they send or receive. The incorporation of Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access technology (OFDMA) allows a shorter response time to the connection demand when there are many users trying to access a Wi-Fi hotspot, greater stability against interference, and safer, higher quality transmissions and capacity. According to the EnGenius executive, "they are able to determine the importance of information and generate intelligent packages that do not collapse the network."
TO the greatest security of the new protocol, even with weak passwords, thanks to the incorporation of the third update of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA3), joins a lower energy consumption of connected devices.
