The National Court gives Bárcenas’s wife and five others convicted by Gürtel ten days to enter jail


The Second Section of the Criminal Chamber of the National High Court has granted a period of ten 10 days to enter prison for Rosalía Iglesias, wife of Luis Bárcenas, and five others convicted by the First Era of the Gürtel plot after, last October 14, the Supreme Court will ratify almost in its entirety the sentence that the special court issued in May 2018.

In addition to Iglesias, sentenced to 12 years and eleven months in jail, the Criminal Chamber asks that the ex-wife of the leader of the Gürtel and former Chief of Staff of the Majadahonda City Council, Carmen Rodríguez Quijano (17 years and eight months in prison); the former mayor of Pozuelo de Alarcón Jesús Sepúlveda (14 years and four months); the Gürtel accountant, José Luis Izquierdo (13 years and 10 months); the former counselor of Immigration of the Community of Madrid Carlos Clemente (seven years and nine months) and the former councilman of Estepona Ricardo Galeote (six years and six months).

In the same resolution, the magistrates reject the suspension of admission to prison requested by José Luis Izquierdo, Carmen Rodríguez Quijano and Rosalía Iglesias. In the case of the latter, the court explains that there is no impediment to pursue rehabilitation treatment in the penitentiary.
