Optimism after the slowdown in spring and summer ticket sales

Tilman Kuttenkeuler, general director of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Auditorium Theater Foundation, acknowledged yesterday that he does not have a crystal ball to see the future, but according to the data available to him, he trusts that the slowdown in the sale of entries that occurred in spring and summer throughout Europe has been temporary.

He pointed out in the presentation of the new programming that in the month of May, this Foundation "recorded the best sales figures in its history", both for the shows of the following months and for some of those that were announced yesterday. It is true, he acknowledged, that "in June and July the rooms were not as full as we wanted", but Kuttenkeuler expressed hope that "the high level" of sales prior to last Easter will be recovered. “Culture has a fixed place in the minds of the population. It was seen during the pandemic, where people did not hesitate to return with masks and with a vaccination passport »to the venues where it was offered.

He announced that several vouchers are still being marketed for some cycles and that the attendance of more than two people together at the shows will be encouraged with discounts.

Questioned by this newspaper about the economic aspects of the new season, Kuttenkeuler said that 360,000 euros have been allocated for its own programming and that between 80 and 90% of the total has a Canarian stamp, both due to the presence of artists and promoters.

The mayor and president of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, Augusto Hidalgo, celebrated that this institution, contrary to custom, is maintained with 60% of its own income and 40% from the two public employers, the capital and municipal councils.

Antonio Morales, for his part, celebrated the "overturn" made almost eight years ago in the management of the Foundation to open its doors to local professionals with a significant presence in the seasons of the Pérez Galdós Theater and the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.
