Music will be the great bet of the Insular Theater Hall (SIT) at the start of this new year, with the concerts they will offer the guitarist and timplista Hirahi Afonso, the duo formed Carla Vega and Jorge Granados, and the singer-songwriter Fran Fernández, on days 12, 19 and 26, respectively, and always at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets for these three shows cost 10 euros and are on sale through the usual channels that SIT has: the website www.salainsulardeteatro.com and the box office of the Cuyás Theater, on Viera y Clavijo street in the Gran Canaria capital. In addition, shortly before each performance they will also be at the box office of the SIT itself, on Avenida Primero de Mayo.
Instead of acting, as initially planned with Nuria Balaguer (Maragua), Hirahi Afonso will present on the 12th at the SIT part of his first solo work, Memento, that will see the light soon. For the occasion, the Gran Canaria musician settled in Barcelona will be accompanied by Pau Figueres (guitar) and Daniel Farran (percussion), who, together, will invite the audience to enjoy different styles in what will be, they promise, "a perfect alliance to create a grandiose spectacle of sonorities".
Also this month the #NoSoloAutor cycle will return to the Chamber of the Cabildo. Specifically, with the performances of Carla Vega and Jorge Granados, on the one hand, and Fran Fernández, on the other. The first will present on the 19th their second job, Follow your road, ten original compositions that reflect the evolution in the recording and staging of this duo, whose original intention was only to make covers with their own identity.
Vega and Granados began their respective careers in traditional Canarian music with a first job, The blue hour (2016), recorded in an intimate format of guitar and voice and with which they toured scenarios throughout the archipelago. Since then, the melodic and powerful voice of Vega has evolved towards jazz and pop and Granados has collaborated as a guitarist with Los Gofiones, Mestisay, Taburiente, Pedro Manuel Afonso or Ensamble Juglar, among others.
With his personal and authentic style, Fran Fernández will arrive at the SIT on the 26th. He will do it accompanied by his eleven-string guitar, its characteristic effects and loops as well as its main influences: most classic singer-songwriters and American folk. This self-taught musician was born in Granada in 1981. A record by Silvio Rodríguez awakens in him the emotion for music and with only 16 years he offers his first concert. He soon obtains his first prizes as singer-songwriter at the International Competition of Melilla or the Festival de Cantautores de Elche (Prize of the public and the best song) and starts touring through Spain, Mexico, Argentina and Chile.
Already in full interpretive maturity, in 2017, he publishes his eighth work, the album-book What we have inside, produced by Pablo Cebrián (Sergio Dalma, Manuel Carrasco …) and which has great collaborations: Carlos Goñi de Revólver, Marwan, Funambulista, Fredi Leis and Mexican singer-songwriters Edgar Oceransky and Miguel Inzunza.
In addition to some unpublished poems, the disc includes as many chapters as songs, in which the author develops the theme of each composition, making his music an immersive experience, telling the whys, the sensations in the studio, the anecdotes with the invited artists and reflections on love, life and its circumstances.
