The municipal body promotes adapted disciplines with more than 85,000 euros allocated to aid and subsidies for initiatives such as the Aprodesli Association's "Bautismo de mar" diving project or the CB Támbara Adapted Basketball School, the Canarian Foundation for Inclusive Sports of the CN Las Palmas or the disabled women's team "Sin Barrera Driving" in the Spanish Eco Rally Championship
Through the Municipal Sports Institute (IMD), during the past
2021 a total of 86,428.56 euros in subsidies and aid in different projects that promote inclusive sport, in addition to promoting the practice of adapted sport among people with different abilities in the capital.
In this sense, grants have been awarded to projects such as "Baptism of the sea" of the Association for the Promotion of Sport Without Limits (Aprodesli), aimed at diving adapted for people with disabilities
(6,000 euros), which this year has had the participation of half a thousand people.
The Swimming School of the Canarian Foundation for Inclusive Sports of the
Las Palmas Swimming Club (30,000 euros) and the
CB Támbara Basketball School (6,000 euros)aimed at young people with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
At the level of sponsorship contracts, the municipal body has also consolidated initiatives such as the
Futsal with functional diversity players from Interisleta (€3,000) and the participation of the women's team with disabilities from the Sin Barreras Driving club (4,500 euros) in the Spanish Alternative Energies Championship (Eco Rally), as well as the "Valientes en forma" project of the Pequeno Valiente entity, aimed at making it possible to carry out of physical activity and sports among children with cancer or
who have passed the disease (5,000 €).
In parallel, the IMD has hired a series of billboards in different parts of the city to publicize the different proposals promoted by the local government through the campaign
“Get vaccinated with Sport” (5,500 euros), thus promoting physical activity among the most disadvantaged groups and even among the most vulnerable segments of the population in the face of the pandemic, thus turning sport into one of the first containment dams against Covid-19, aware of the importance of developing a healthy activity to improve health and combat the coronavirus with greater guarantees.
Likewise, this year the IMD adherence agreement to the
Suma Project of the Gran Canaria Basketball Club (15,000 euros)divided into three differentiated schools or groups aimed, on the one hand, at people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), young people with different intellectual and neurotypical abilities, as well as a channeled School for people with diverse abilities, very heterogeneous among themselves -syndrome Down, Asperger, sensory disability, mild or moderate motor, etc.-.
To all this are added the four clubs and associations of the city that obtained a subsidy for the development and promotion of sports practice for people with disabilities during the 2020-21 season,
whose total amount rose to 11,428.56 euros.
Specifically, the entities benefiting from this benefit were the Enagracan Sports Club, CD La Vida Sigue En Positivo, the Econy Club Deportivo Agrupación de Minusválidos and the Las Palmas Swimming Club,
each receiving the same amount (2,857.14 euros).
In this sense, the IMD contemplates for this year a substantial increase in subsidies for adapted sports, which will rise to
€40,000which will consolidate the more social angle with which they want to nurture sport in the capital.
