The Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, Ione Belarra, has announced a National Plan called 'Listen and accompany that will serve as analysis and diagnosis to know the reality of mental health in the group of girls, boys and adolescents. The latest data regarding the impact of the pandemic on the younger population were alarming: a 50% increase in pediatric emergencies for psychiatric reasons, as well as a growth in eating disorders in adolescents.

In the presentation this Thursday in Barcelona, Belarra admitted that there is a lack of both "quantitative" and "qualitative" data on "how young people are living those experiences of suffering, sadness, and anxiety that professionals reveal to us." He made this announcement during the visit to the Konsulta'm project for psychological support for young people of the Barcelona City Council.

The ministry will work on this plan throughout 2021 and it will be presented in the first quarter of 2022. The minister has advanced that the voice of children and young people will be counted on to elaborate it and that she will pay special attention to the minors from vulnerable backgrounds and to sexual, racial, ethnic and cultural diversity. “Belonging to the LGTBI collective, being a girl or a young girl, being an unprivileged racialized person. All those elements that sometimes contribute to making people suffer even more have to be considered in this plan, ”the minister stressed.

This ad matches the presentation of a draft of the Mental Health Law project by the parliamentary group of the party of Ione Belarra, United We Can and with a moment of social sensitivity and attention to mental health problems, especially those derived from confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic. Likewise, the Government is working on the renewal of the Mental Health Strategy.
