The man arrested for helping his terminally ill woman to die has been released without precautionary measures after appearing before the judge tonight, legal sources have informed Efe.
The prosecutor has decided not to ask for any precautionary measure for the detainee, Ángel Hernández, for which the judge has released him under investigation for a crime of cooperation to suicide, according to the same sources, who added that during the hearing he acknowledged that helped his wife to die.
The arrest took place yesterday afternoon at the home where the couple lived, located on the street of Federico Sainz de Robles, in the Madrid district of Moncloa-Aravaca, after the assisted suicide of María José Carrasco, sick for three decades of multiple sclerosis and dependent on her husband.
The couple recorded it in a video, in which María José confirms her firm decision to die.
The Criminal Code regulates in article 143 the induction to suicide or cooperation with the suicide of other people, with a range of penalties ranging from two to ten years in prison, although a reduction is foreseen if there is an express request from the victim and she had a serious illness.
