The leader of the Popular Party, Pablo Casado, has decided to break the institutional unity against terrorism with the sole objective of wearing down the coalition government of PSOE and United We Can. The populars they were absent on Sunday from the traditional official act in homage to the victims organized by the Congress of Deputies. It was the first time that the PP was not in that event, established in 2010 by all the groups in the Lower House unanimously. Casado’s argument to justify this absence – members of his party preferred to participate in an alternative rally outside the hemicycle, along with some of the associations of victims critical of the Government – is that EH Bildu attended the event on Sunday, although in 2019 and 2020 also attended the pro-independence training and the PP – including its leader – then had no problem in attending those events.
