The La Palma volcano has affected some 1,281 buildings

The third week of eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, whose lava already affects an area of 525.77 hectares (33.02 more than the previous day), keeps the emergency services very aware of the new laundry that runs north of the main one, because it can destroy areas that had been safe in the first days.

There is also a concern about the change in the wind, which threatens to render the La Palma airport.

Despite the new landslides like the one this Sunday, it is not expected that the new lava flows change the path you are already following on the surface.

Seismicity continues to be high. It is kept in medium depths (10-15km) and deep (more than 20km). The current level of seismicity suggests that more felt earthquakes will continue to occur, which can cause localized landslides in sloping areas.

Tonight the major earthquake It occurred at 10:46 p.m. in the Canary Islands, 4.3 in Villa de Mazo, but with the focus at very deep levels, 39 kilometers away.

According to the latest report from the Department of National Security of the Government of SpainThree weeks after the start of the eruption, the emission centers of the crater are still active.

The constant effusive activity it has expanded the flows to the north, continuing its descent towards the Todoque area, which had not been affected by the main flow.

Thus, there are currently two branches in the north stream: the south, which has joined the previous stream, and the north, which is located in the Los Llanos de Aridane industrial estate.

The latter is object of special surveillance before the possibility that its route varies.

And it is precisely in that area where the neighbors have returned to spend another hard night, due to the uncertainty of the laundry, but also due to the continuous noises and explosions.

According to the European Copernicus service, there are 1,281 buildings affected. Regarding the cultivated area, there are 132 hectares with damage.

Regarding the ash column, it reached a height of 3,500 meters yesterday. Despite the improvement in the meteorological conditions of the last hours, this Monday a turn to the west component of the wind is expected between the levels of 2,500 to 5,500 meters, which will cause a displacement of the ash plume that could affect the operation of the La Palma airport.

The emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) it continues to register high values, consistent with the eruptive process, and far, for the moment, from the maximum permitted thresholds in terms of air quality.

And as for the lava delta or fajana, it continues to extend its surface and advance in the depth of the sea until its front is placed on the head of a marine canyon.

However, the estimated calculation of its surface has been corrected and it has been set at 34 hectares, compared to previous measurements that approximated it to 40 hectares.

They prohibit the access by Tazacorte to the areas evacuated by the eruption

The Cabildo of La Palma informs this Monday that access to the evacuated areas is not allowed through the municipality of Tazacorte while the evolution of the volcanic eruption north of the Todoque mountain continues to be studied.

The corporation specifies that access from the south will be allowed to evacuated residents with properties outside the security perimeter to collect clothes and belongings, although access will be controlled and they will be accompanied by security personnel, prior coordination with the corresponding City Council.

It also indicates that farmers will also be able to access from the south to cut fruit and water.

The measurement may be subject to change according to the meteorological conditions and evolution of the eruptive process.
