The "la Caixa" Foundation to promote intercultural and social action projects in Las Palmas - La Provincia

The "la Caixa" Foundation, chaired by Isidro Fainé and directed by Antonio Vila, will allocate 2.2 million euros to promote intercultural and social action initiatives through the Program of Aid for Social Initiative Projects. Faced with the crisis caused by the coronavirus, the entity reinforces its commitment to social entities and the most vulnerable groups in Las Palmas, extending the deadline for the presentation of projects until July 1 and including proposals that respond to the new challenges pose as a consequence of the pandemic that affects especially people at risk of social exclusion.

The program collaborates with non-profit organizations to promote initiatives aimed especially at people who are in a situation of social vulnerability and whose objective is to promote equal opportunities and improve their quality of life.

"With this call, we want to contribute to the construction of a more inclusive and diverse society, promoting projects that promote intercultural citizen coexistence and social development, especially in complex circumstances such as the current one due to the coronavirus crisis," explained the deputy director. General of the Banking Foundation "la Caixa", Marc Simón.

In Las Palmas, 25 projects were selected in 2019 through the program, reaching 6,787 people with the boost of 517,580 euros. In the framework of the call for Interculturality and Social Action, a project was promoted in Las Palmas with a grant of 32,400 euros, and which benefited 1,000 people.

In total, the "la Caixa" Foundation allocated 17.3 million euros to 736 social projects through 660 social entities. The projects contributed to improving the lives of a total of 268,231 people.

The Program of Aid for Social Initiative Projects, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), annually promotes different social calls that address projects in the following areas: Promotion of personal autonomy and care for aging, disability and disease ; Fight against child poverty and social exclusion; Housing for social inclusion; Socio-labor insertion; Interculturality and social action, and Social action in rural areas.
