The Banca La Caixa Foundation, the first private foundation in the country, with an annual budget of over 500 million euros, will recover its original name, La Caixa, to project the social commitment that gave rise to the entity in 1904.
Coinciding with the end of the year and with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Francesc Moragas, founder of the Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros, La Caixa, the entity will launch a communication campaign in the press, radio, television and digital media for inform of this change of denomination.
As the campaign concludes, "La Caixa is a foundation, the foundation is La Caixa", so that the entity will no longer need to bring forward words or expressions such as "Fundación Bancaria" or "Obra Social", but will use it again its founding brand.
"At the beginning of the 20th century, La Caixa was identified with tributes to old age, libraries or summer camps", explained the president of the entity, Isidro Fainé, who stressed that this name is today "is synonymous with attention to groups vulnerable, research excellence, quality education and cultural proposals of the first level available to all citizens. "
"The social needs have changed, but the values of La Caixa are the same," said Fainé in a statement.
The foundation, directed by Jaume Giró, counted in 2018 with a budget of 520 million euros and next year it will reach 545 million.
The 2019 budget includes 530 million recurring budget and an extraordinary budget of 15 million to strengthen support for biomedical research, the construction of CaixaFòrum Valencia and the renovation of the permanent CosmoCaixa room.
This year, La Caixa has treated more than 60,000 vulnerable children, has obtained 36,000 jobs for people in vulnerable situations, provided psychosocial assistance to about 25,000 advanced patients and promoted active aging among some 800,000 elderly people.
In addition, the foundation has invested more than 75 million euros in research and training and has contributed to cultural dissemination, achieving more than 6 million visitors to its proposals.
