The ”la Caixa” Foundation launches an undergraduate scholarship program for excellent students with limited resources
The ”la Caixa” Foundation will open on April 15 a new college degree scholarship program. In the first edition of this program, 50 scholarships will be announced for excellent students with limited financial resources who wish to pursue undergraduate studies at universities or other public higher education centers in Spain for the first time.
Applicants for these grants, which can be requested until June 1, must be beneficiaries of the fixed income allowance (threshold 1 for family income) of the general grant from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training or the Basque Government in the 2020-2021 call.

More than a scholarship
The new scholarships from the ”la Caixa” Foundation offer a monthly grant of 600 euros as compensation for full dedication to study and an initial grant of 600 euros to acquire material and computer equipment, as well as an additional monthly grant of 400 euros to carry out an international stay.
With the aim of equipping these students with the key competencies to achieve academic excellence, the scholarship also includes a language course throughout the degree and the participation of each scholarship holder in an accompaniment and training program in transversal skills.
Transparency and rigor
The scholarship programs of the ”la Caixa” Foundation are recognized for the rigor and transparency of their selection processes. The evaluation and selection of applications for this new scholarship program will be carried out on a competitive basis. The process will comprise two phases: a first pre-selection phase, in which the candidates with the best transcript grade will be chosen, and a second phase, in which the short-listed candidates will be called for a personal interview before an external evaluation committee. which will choose the 50 candidates who demonstrate the greatest merits and abilities.
Comprehensive support for academic and research excellence
The ”la Caixa” Foundation scholarship program was born in 1982 with the aim of promoting international mobility and promoting excellence in training and research in the best universities and research centers in the world, through its graduate program abroad. Later, with the programs of doctorate Y post-doctorate in Spain and Portugal, was committed to attracting and retaining the best Spanish and international research talent, and promoting cutting-edge research in the Iberian Peninsula. During these 40 years, more than 5,000 students and researchers have already obtained one of these scholarships.
Now, with the new undergraduate scholarship program of the ”la Caixa” Foundation, the entity covers all stages of university and post-university education, at the same time taking a new turn and combining, for the first time, the academic excellence that both characterizes these aids with social equity. The budget for the first call for this program is 2.3 million euros.
