The king meets for the first time with Almeida as mayor of Madrid

The king met on Wednesday at the Palacio de la Zarzuela with the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, at the first hearing granted from the relay at the head of the municipal corporation of the capital.

Martínez Almeida has waited for Felipe VI in the Zarzuela Audience Hall, where the king has greeted him and both have posed for graphic informants.

Then they have accessed the office of the head of state to start the meeting.

In it, Almeida has had the opportunity to transfer to the king his projects for the capital in the next four years and the main challenges facing the city.

24 hours after the second investiture vote of Pedro Sánchez as President of the Government, it is foreseeable that there has also been some comment on the general political landscape of Spain.

In the same way, the mayor has been able to personally express to the king the congratulations that he transferred to his Twitter account last June, after the five years of his proclamation.

A congratulation in which he considered that Felipe VI is "the greatest expression of freedom and the best guarantee of the constitutional order."

The fact that Madrid is the capital of Spain and that numerous institutional activities of the Crown are developed in this city are some of the reasons for this audience, which has already been held with other Madrid mayors.

Thus, Felipe VI also received the former mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, in Zarzuela, shortly after being elected to this position in June 2015.

Although this is the first time they have met in La Zarzuela, Felipe VI and Almeida have already agreed to an event held in Madrid since the relay in their mayor's office.

Among them, the one that took place on July 3 at the headquarters of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and in which this institution gave the king the golden key of municipalism.

An act in which Felipe VI highlighted the decisive contribution of city councils in the spreading of Spain, having been "schools of democracy, coexistence and respect for plurality" since the first local elections were held 40 years ago.

The audience of the king to Almeida has been held a little more than a month after he managed to get hold of the mayor of Madrid thanks to the votes of the councilors of his party, the PP, those of Citizens and Vox.
