The King arrives in Mexico to attend the inauguration of López Obrador

The Head of State, who is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, Josep Borrell, will hold a meeting on Friday with the president-elect in the Office of the President, according to the planned agenda.

Likewise, he will keep a breakfast with businessmen in the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and a meeting with a representation of the Spanish colony in Mexico at the ambassador's residence.

On Saturday, Felipe VI will participate in the acts of the inauguration of Lopez Obrador, which will take place in the Legislative Palace of San Lazaro, and include a lunch at the National Palace.

This is the first inauguration of an Ibero-American president who Felipe VI attended as head of state, although he performed this task dozens of times as Prince of Asturias. As Head of State, he attended the inauguration in 2016 of the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Since the proclamation of Philip VI, the Spanish Government has yet to decide whether or not to opt for a stable formula for the representation of Spain in the inaugurations of Ibero-American presidents. The next one, already on the agenda, will be that of the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, on January 1.
