The judge sends to prison the two ringleaders of the iDental fraud | Society

The judge of the National Court José de la Mata has sent Vicente Castañer and José María Garrido, two of the three main parties, to prison this Friday morning. for the scam of the iDenta dental clinic networkl uncovered by the police last Tuesday in a new phase of Operation Apolonia. The third, Javier García Pellicer, was arrested on Tuesday in the United Kingdom. The magistrate has requested his delivery to Spain after taking a statement on Thursday by videoconference. Of the other 11 detainees, one must pay a bond of 20,000 euros to avoid prison. The rest have been released with precautionary measures: delivery of passport, prohibition to leave Spain and regular appearances in court.

All of them are accused of criminal organization, misappropriation, continued fraud, unfair administration, injuries, document misrepresentation, money laundering and property uprising for the alleged diversion of funds destined to refloat the company to their personal assets. The amount of what is allegedly defrauded exceeds 60 million euros, according to the National Court announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The investigation has revealed that the detainees allegedly created a corporate structure to raise funds to refloat companies in crisis. However, the real objective of the researchers was to keep the money put by Spanish and foreign investors, knowing the economic viability of the clinics. Leading the alleged plot were Castañer and Pellicer, founders of iDental. The other incarcerated, Garrido, was the administrator of Weston Hill, an investment fund that contributed 25 million in this fraudulent attempt to recapitalize the chain of dental clinics.

Last October, the research already allowed to abort the attempt of the managers of iDental to build a new network of clinics, called Associated Dental Institutes, with 27 centers spread throughout Spain. Then, the judge sent two others responsible for the company, Enrique Gumiel del Vado and Luis Sans Huecas, currently incarcerated in Madrid's Soto del Real prison.

On this occasion, the 14 people investigated had the connivance of employees of credit institutions who were in charge of granting the necessary loans to make the investments. Jorge Puga, ex-director of Bankia and in charge of facilitating lines of credit to the risk fund, is among the detainees who have been released with measures. The investigations have uncovered that the members of the organization were progressively decapitalizing the companies of the plot and, through figureheads, screen societies and bridge accounts, hiding the final destination of the money.

In the case of iDental, the people investigated deceived the patients, who made them hire loans to finance their dental treatments, with supposed discounts of up to 80%, at the expense of inflating the budget. All this, with aggressive campaigns of marketing.
