The judge of the National Court Alejandro Abascal has asked State Lotteries and Betting a report on the ‘incident’ occurred during the extraordinary Christmas raffle, in which the person in charge of operating the hype introduced a ball by hand, when all those carrying the numbers in play fall directly from the hopper before the draw begins.

The controversy that was unleashed on December 22, 2019, when images were disseminated on social networks in which it was appreciated how the person in charge of operating the hype introduced a ball by hand, led an individual to report an alleged crime of fraud, despite the fact that Lotteries and State Betting had already issued a statement clarifying the facts.

In the text, the institution explained that “one of the circumstances foreseen in the process of introducing the balls in the drums is that some can bounce out“.” In that case – the note stated – the established protocol indicates that the operator responsible for introducing the balls into the bass drum must proceed to his manual introduction in the same”.

The first complaint fell to Judge Abascal, who transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office so that he could report on the source of opening investigation investigations or directly filing the case. When this procedure was made public, during the following weeks a drip of complaints for this ‘incident’ that already exceeds ten.

First, the Public Prosecutor’s Office considers that the National Court is the competent court to hear the facts denounced and, on the other hand, proposed to the instructor a single procedure: request the State Lottery and State Betting Society (SELAE) to report on “the reported incident” and on “if there is a protocol for these assumptions and if it was applied”, as well as to send the entire recording of the draw. The diligence has now been agreed by the magistrate.
