The Javieradas of 2021 suspended due to covid-19

Pamplona, Jan 12 (EFE) .- The traditional Javieradas that are held annually in March in Navarra will not take place this year due to the situation generated by covid-19, as reported by the Archbishopric of Pamplona.

Thousands of people usually participate in this pilgrimage to Javier’s castle, the birthplace of San Francisco Javier, which is celebrated over two weekends in March.

The director of the Javieradas, Óscar Azcona, on behalf of the Archbishop of Pamplona and Bishop of Tudela, Francisco Pérez, has announced his suspension, which also implies that the Masses corresponding to the first and second Javierada will not be celebrated on the esplanade of the castle .

However, Javier’s own celebrations of the Novena de la Gracia are held from March 4 to 12, with limited capacity in compliance with the regulations in force at the time.
