The news of the V edition of the Festival, which aims to be an unforgettable musical experience for all audiences, residents and visitors, was announced on Tuesday in the presentation offered by the director of the Foundation Auditorium and Theater of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , Tilman Kuttenkeuler, the activity technician of the Mapfre Guanarteme Foundation, David Batista, accompanied by the artistic director of the IBF Canarias, Michael Gieler.

After five editions offering an excellent artistic quality, the IBF in the Canary Islands has established itself as an international benchmark for classical music festivals, with professionals of twenty nationalities sharing the stage with musicians from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam and the Philharmonic of Gran Canaria, together with different and recognized international specialists. In addition, it is celebrated during the Easter holidays, from April 14 to 20, 2019, marking the arrival of spring, with mild temperatures that allow you to enjoy a great beach morning and end the day with a concert to remember connecting with the most beautiful music ever written.

The artistic director of the IBF, Michael Gieler, thanked in his presentation the presence of another edition of the main sponsors of the event such as the Auditorium and Theater Foundation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Mapfre Guanarteme Foundation, as well as other sponsors who support the festival such as the Government of the Canary Islands and the Capisa Group, which, thanks to their interest and effort, make it possible to hold an international event of these characteristics. According to Gieler, the main novelties of this edition will be the interpretation in the Concertante Bach of works by other great artists such as Händel, Telemann and the Italian composer Sammartini, as well as the staging this year of the Passion of San Juan where, according to his words, "we try to give the audience a new experience so they can live this magnificent work and feel it as they have never felt it, through a careful staging, both with the movement of the choir and the soloists on the stage, for the moments in which the orchestra will play without the conductor's baton ".

For all this, it has counted on the invaluable collaboration of the famous stage director Peter Leung. It will be, in short, a very original staging. Michael Gieler is convinced that the IBF is a very special festival, since all the musicians who come to play in the Canary Islands do so because of their passion for music and Bach. It is a festival "without a big budget and without big salaries but, really, it is a special motivation for all of them for the fact of being able to play with colleagues from different countries, for the hospitality that is lived among all during the festival, and for the good environment that surrounds the organization of this event. "

The director of the Auditorium and Theater Foundation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Tilman Kuttenkeuler, highlighted in the presentation of this V Edition that the festival is growing from year to year, both in number of attendees and in the quality of its programming, presenting the great masterpieces of Bach on such important and significant dates in our country as it is Holy Week. The International Bach Festival has consolidated, in his opinion, as "the reference event at this time of the year in Canary Islands", highlighting this year the celebration of Passion of San Juan, in addition to the rest of concerts and adaptations like the one scheduled at the Pérez Galdós theater, called Bach Rock, on April 20, as another of the main novelties of the edition, which incorporates rock to classical music.

The IBF is celebrated in other European countries as Holland, Hungary or Nordic countries, which has allowed access to initial aid from the European Union that will strengthen and consolidate the work done in these five years. The formative part of the Festival together with the Mapfre Foundation, Guanarteme, highlighted Kuttenkeuler, makes it a great opportunity for the young musicians of the Canary Islands and makes it "a cultural and educational musical project, all around Bach, the composer of music classic of world reference ". The Auditorium and Theater Foundation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will be selling a subscription of five concerts for only € 80 this week, which will make access to the general public more accessible.

For his part, David Batista of the Mapfre Guanarteme Foundation, said that "the Festival has an extraordinary artistic level and is an added value to the tourist offer of Holy Week." In his opinion, "what really stands out from his participation is that the Festival develops different actions for young musicians in the Canary Islands, such as the master classes held at the Foundation; Master Class for students with open rehearsals, and a contest that awards the best and most outstanding musicians, aimed at young performers between 8 and 22. "All this allows young people to enrich their musical training.
